Tashina Benning | DONA Trained Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator (Certified Birth Boot Camp Instructor)
In 2007, I had my first child with the invaluable support of a doula. This most kind and loving soul provided something I took with me from that experience; an ability to feel victorious in the most challenging of circumstances, and how wonderfully women take care of one another in the vulnerability of childbirth.
Over five years ago, synchronicities prevailed, and I attended the training to become a professional doula and then to become a childbirth educator. I couldn’t have imagined the good fortune, and resources that appeared to support me. Immediately I knew I needed to quit my job in tech and do birth for a living.
Nearly 200 births later, hospitals feel like home now- handy since I need to occasionally sleep in them. I’m not saying I get lost anymore, but I still don t understand who designed the wayfinding systems. I get to attend client’s first, second, and even third-childbirths. I still marvel at the anatomy of birth and how strong all women are how enduring that strength really is.
Also, how coffee is actually an indisputable miracle.
I have a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration, and I serve on a local hospital’s patient advocacy council to improve patient care. My great loves are my two little boys and all of my million books. I have a sense of humor but I’m nowhere near accepting the invention of the e-“book”.
