kristina claiborne | doula in training

Hi- My name is Kristina. I’m a DONA trained birth doula with intentions of postpartum training in the near future. I came to birth work through means of studying to be a lactation consultant. I had three great breastfeeding experiences with my children - but not great experiences with several lactation consultants after birth. I saw a need for more understanding and patient consultants, and more confidence in the new mother and her ability to feed her baby. In one of my classes, my professor was talking about doulas and their role through labor and birth. I have a naturally empathetic, calm, and advocating personality. I knew deep down that this was the path for me.

I am excited by not only the existence of Capital City Doula Collective and their mission, but also the fact that I can be an active part of the team. A sisterhood of women who genuinely want to help each other and make an impact in the lives of families in our community. I believe that the only way we succeed is TOGETHER.

There is a huge need to bring confidence and trust back into the birth space. I want every woman I partner with to feel heard, valued and cared for. My role is to connect you to the resources you need- both within you and in the world. My strengths are: empathy, compassion, non-judgement and championing you to believe in yourself and your strong, unique, beautiful body. I am knowledgeable with essential oils and how aromatically and topically they can help calm and soothe a laboring momma. I am also trained in aroma touch technique through dōTERRA which is an application of oils on your back, hands and feet. It is not considered a massage because I do not move muscles but it is just as relaxing. My goal as a part of my clients birth team is to foster good working relationships with physicians and nurses along with their guiding partners. This will insure my clients feel empowered and satisfied with their birth experience.

My time outside of the birth world is spent with my family. My partner Kevin and I have five kiddos between us. Two girls that are 11 (not twins, we just lucked out) and three boys, 10, 8, and 5. We love to travel, paddle board, have game nights with friends, hang at home on the patio talking about our hopes and dreams and also binge Netflix or self care and crime podcasts. I love design, in particular home decor. The ocean is always calling my name.
